Located in the heart of the Plateau Mont-Royal, the project involves the transformation of a typical 1900s duplex into a two-story single-family home. The original stacked, compartmentalized apartments make way for a spacious modern residence, designed and built by L’Abri.

The envisioned layout offers the residents a unique living environment for the neighborhood, maximizing the openness of spaces, spatial clarity, and the refinement of details. On the ground floor, the living spaces unfold into a large, through space, from the street to the garden. Only the volume of the bathroom is enclosed, also isolating the entrance. The kitchen occupies the center of the floor, with the large island benefiting from an open area facing the staircase, which runs along the shared wall and turns into a perforated walkway at the upper level. A true heart of the project, this large opening, at the intersection of horizontal and vertical circulation, is crowned by a long skylight that provides abundant natural light to both levels.

Upstairs, the walkway separates the master suite at the front from the secondary bedrooms at the rear. The master bedroom spans the full width of the building and features a small balcony facing the walk-in closet. While the entire building already has high ceilings, the master bedroom takes advantage of the existing roof pitch, offering a ceiling clearance of 10 feet. A second skylight floods the master bathroom's shower with light.

At the rear, the original staircase is replaced to free up space in the courtyard. The new staircase extends to the rooftop terrace, offering a secluded retreat between the mountain and downtown.
