The Shoebox Mile-Ex project proposes an architectural extension inspired by the industrial typology of the same name, characterized by its simplicity and spatial rationality.

The new living spaces are housed in a compact volume that steps back from the street to maintain a clear view of the original one-story house built in the 1900s. This monochrome ensemble embraces its atypical character, fitting seamlessly into the ongoing transformation of the Mile-Ex area, the intersection of three neighborhoods where industrial and residential typologies have always coexisted. The replacement of façade cladding and architectural details is done with a sense of refinement and integration into the built environment. At the front, the new floor, with its smooth finish, contrasts with the brick base, expressing a verticality typical of window openings and offering a contemporary interpretation of the crown. In the backyard, larger windows open the living spaces to a new outdoor garden.

The project, set to be built in the fall of 2023, received a favorable opinion from the CCU in February.
